This year's unusually warm spring has thrown the city into new patterns. Windows all down the street are thrown open at night and shades are kept closed against the hot light. The window frames cast angular shadows across building fronts reminding me just how many people surround me at all times.
With the eastern sun hitting our windows, the apartment stays cooler than most despite how far up we are, though it does take a dance with the windows and curtains. The morning brings the first light and the beginning of the heat, but I always look forward to coming home at night and pulling back the curtains to catch the last of the sunset color as well as the first of the evening breeze.
